Lake of Two Rivers
Highway noises, Comfort Station, Dog Beach, East Beach Picnic Pavilion and Outdoor Theater Information.
Lake of Two Rivers is the oldest and best known of the eight campgrounds. It is located 31.8 km from the West Gate. The Gates are Open from May 14th to October 12th.
But did you know:
It takes 100 Steps to get from the entrance gates (just off of Highway 60) to the office and it takes 48 steps from the office to the first campsite road turn off.
Highway 60 is very close. This information is important!
When looking at the Provincial Park Map or at the Friends of Algonquin Annual Newsletter both maps for Lake of Two River are not to scale. Highway traffic noise can be heard when camping at many of the sites.

There are 241 sites of which 160 have electrical hook ups. 1 Host Site (Volunteers who stay through the season to assist with information about Park Facilities.)
There are 27 Non-Reservable Sites. This means first come, first serve. If you have not made a reservation you can put your name on the first come first served list at the office, prior to 11:30am. This will give you a chance to pick one of the non reservable sites, if there are any available.
Facilities
Comfort Station: Cleaned twice a day. The morning cleaning schedule is at 8:15 to 9 am. This can be very inconvenient if you wake up around that time because the washrooms are closed. However, the outhouses are always open.
Shower facilities are also cleaned at that time. Most people take their showers at night so there is a line up after 6 pm. The shower stalls are always wet. If you don't like touching wet floors where others have showered bring water shoes.

Laundry at Lake of Two Rivers: The laundry room is located on the other side of the Comfort Station. The doors have windows for light, the area was clean, the machines worked. These are all considerations if you are staying more then a week. $1.25 washing machine, $1.50 Dryer. There was no soap machine dispensers so you will have to bring your own laundry detergent. If you haven't any change for the machines you can get some from the Park Office or even the store. There are 2 commercial washing machines and 2 dryers.

Dog Beach

This picture shows the main beach swim area on the left with the posts marking the boarder. The rest of the beach to the right, including the canoes, is the dogs swim area. Unfortunately, I didn't take a picture showing the next 500 feet of beach. Which is grassy and used for the picking up/dropping off and storing of canoes. As well parents were teaching young children how to fish here. At the height of camping season it is very busy. Especially in the morning when the Park Store would drop off canoes. There were lineups of people arranging rentals.
Most of the time there are so many canoes here you can hardly walk on the beach to get to the water. This makes it an uncomfortable situation to take your dog for a swim. But the water is extremely shallow (only up to your ankles depending on rain) so if you can get past the canoes you can stand in the water and throw sticks for your pup without being in anyone's way.
East Beach and Outdoor Theatre:
Located 10 minutes down the road from the Lake of Two Rivers Campground. Turn Right if you are coming out of the campground. The Picnic Pavilion is a generous rentable building with 2 fireplaces, one at each end, and picnic tables inside. Rentable from 10 am to 8 pm for $200/day. We snuck in when someone forgot to lock the doors and marveled at how clean it was and the gorgeous fireplaces. Behind is a path to the beach with more picnic tables and a swim area. Rarely did we find more then 10 people here. We let our dog off the leash (not allowed) and enjoyed this private spot. There is also a boat launch further down the road at this turn off with the South Madawaska River branching off to Pog Lake.

Behind the Pavilion is a path to the beach with more picnic tables. Many people put the picnic tables into the water and enjoy a picnic lunch surrounded by water. Swimming up to your picnic table is always fun for the kids. The beach is clean and the water is clear. There are some rocks and pebbles in the water near the shore but the bottom gets sandy further out. If you like snorkeling, 50 feet from the shore, directly in line with the "No Lifeguard on duty" sign is a tubular piece of granite about 5 feet long and 3 feet wide.
