Buying food in Algonquin
Where to buy food and supplies while in Algonquin Provincial Park
Highway 60 corridor camping - Whether you packed your cooler before you left home, picked up food on the way here or are staying for more then a week - you will want to buy food.
Lake of Two Rivers Store (3 minute walk from Lake of Two Rivers Campground) - milk, eggs, bread, ice, camping supplies and your basic boxed, canned or snack supplies and worms ($2.00 for 12 worms). You will pay the higher tourist prices for these conveniences. ($5.00 for a pack of hot dogs or bacon, really!) Here you will also find a fast food counter with hamburgers, hotdogs, ice cream, poutine and the usual summer snack list. A good range of tasty ice cream flavors and soft ice cream ($10.31 CAD for 4 small soft ice cream twists). The employees are high school students with one adult manager. The ice cream line up is usually 10 people deep with the busiest times being after lunch and after 5pm. Pay for your ice cream, keep the receipt and get into the next line to get your treat. Unfortunately, the washrooms are right beside the ice cream station so traffic in a 10 foot space is very heavy with people.
The Town of Whitney (15 - 20 minutes drive from Lake of Two Rivers Campground, turn right if you are coming out of Lake of Two Rivers campground) offers Food Land and LCBO . If you are coming from Metro Toronto, Food Land is like one of our convenience stores. There are frozen meats (left side, just after the vegetables) which are conveniently frozen solid making them last longer in coolers. They also offer a butchers counter for fresh steaks and fresh bread / baked goodies. The prices, compared to No Frills are $1.00 higher, compared to Metro or Highland Farms are about the same.
The Town of Huntsville (50 minutes drive from Lake of Two Rivers Campground, turn left if you are coming out of Lake of Two Rivers Campground) - Metro & Price Chopper - full grocery stores with Price Chopper being the cheapest.
