Dogs in Algonquin Park
Bringing the family dog to Algonquin is allowed as long as you follow the rules:
1. Dogs must be on a leash at all times. Even at their campsites. The acception to this rule is when they are swimming in the water at the designated dog beach.
2. Pet owners must clean up after their pets.
3. No excessive barking.
In our experience we followed the rules most of the time. We didn't follow the rules when our dog was in our canoe or swimming at the Eastern Beach at Lake of Two Rivers or while we rode our bikes through the airfield (he ran ahead). Our justification was our safety and his safety. He's a ShiPoo weighing 20 lbs. If he was a large dog our choices would have been much more limited to what we could do.
Most people enjoyed our leashed, nosey, puppy running up to them. But lets face it there are some people and cultures that just didn't grow up with a dog. So we try to be respectful when meeting new campers. If they had a small to medium size dog we relaxed the leash and said hello.
If they had no dog, went to the other side of the street, and didn't make eye contact we made sure our dog was close by our side.
